About This Project

Wilkes University partnered with Automated Lifestyles to modernize the audio and projection systems in the Edward Darling Theatre, a performance and educational space within the university's Division of Performing Arts.

The goal was to create a more reliable, high-quality experience for students, faculty, performers, and audiences while providing technology that better supports how the theatre is used every day. The completed upgrades allow the technical team to spend less time troubleshooting and making adjustments and more time focused on students, performances, and the audience experience.

Client Challenges

The Edward Darling Theatre presented several unique challenges, including curved walls, a steeply raked audience area, and acoustics that made achieving consistent sound clarity difficult.

The existing audio system lacked the clarity needed for the space, while the projection system was no longer bright enough to meet the theatre's needs. These limitations affected both the audience experience and the technology students were using as part of their education.

Wilkes University needed a solution that addressed the physical and acoustic characteristics of the theatre while also working within the project's budget.

Our Solutions

Automated Lifestyles worked closely with Wilkes University to understand how the theatre was used, evaluate its acoustic and technical challenges, and determine the right audio and projection solutions for the space.

Throughout the project, our team kept the university informed about the decisions being made and the reasoning behind them. We also provided training to help ensure the technology was comfortable and intuitive for the people using it every day.

The upgraded systems have improved sound clarity and projection performance while reducing the amount of time spent troubleshooting and making adjustments. The result is a more reliable environment for teaching and performances—and a better experience for students, faculty, and audiences.

As Lee described it, the improvements have helped the Edward Darling Theatre become more of a cultural hub, supporting our goal of creating memorable experiences with technology that just works.
